Your Profile: 
We are looking for a motivated, experienced and proactive professional to join our team as a Cardiac Sonographer. As Cardiac Sonographer, your primary responsibility is to perform high quality cardiac ultrasound examinations on adult and pediatric patients in inpatient and outpatient environments per physicians’ orders, utilizing complex ultrasound equipment. You confidently identify, evaluate and document the presence or absence of cardiac pathology. You also assist the Cardiologist in the performance of transesophageal echocardiograms in addition to performing other procedures.

Requirements:

  • A paramedical diploma on HBO (Bachelor) level with a post HBO education in Echocardiography;
  • Experience as a Cardiac Sonographer and knowledge of relevant computerized devices and equipment (ECG, Holter monitoring);
  • BLS and ACLS certification is an asset;
  • Good command of the English language with written and verbal communication skills;
  • Comprehension of additional languages is an asset.

Tasks:

  • Independently perform high-quality diagnostic echocardiographic examinations following policies and procedures:
  • Prepare preliminary sonographer structured reports including all pertinent data in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Recognize and alert the attending Cardiologist of dangerous or critical findings that require immediate attention;
  • Assist the physician in the performance of transesophageal echocardiograms and other special procedures;
  • Maintain required continuing medical education credits for ones professional credential requirements;
  • Ensure established Hospital and Department standards, policies and procedures are met and maintained in a professional manner.

With approx. 425 FTE’s, 28  specialists, and a capacity of 85 beds, we continuously strive to ensure safe, quality health care, close to home. Our primary service area of St. Maarten, Statia, and Saba, represents a total population of approximately 60.000 people, constituting a multi-cultural mix with more than 100 nationalities. In addition, we also offer health care services to two million visitors annually.

SMMC has started the construction of the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
