204. Interactions in Professional Situations

  • This module examines the interactive process of the nurse in relation with the patient, and the legal aspect of this interactive process.
  • It provides a forum in which to explore the foundation, the present and emerging role of the professional nurse.
  • The student studies the effects of leadership theory in the management of people and tasks within the health care environment
  • Emphasis is placed on interpersonal communication as an essential component of nursing.

303. Prevention and Health Education and Promotion

The role of the RN in health promotion and protection of individuals, families and populations is emphasized. The student is introduced to the components of community health nursing.

402. Technical Nursing Skills

Builds on the concepts and skills learned as an LPN. Advanced technical, ‘the medical referred procedures” will be introduced. The boundaries between nursing procedures and medical procedures, patient’s rights and legal issues are reinforced throughout this module.

403. Coordination and Continuity of Care

  • Emphasis is placed on the role of the RN in providing continuity of care.
  • The module focuses on the development of beginning skills in assessment of the healthy adult. Interviewing, obtaining a healthy history and the components of a physical assessment are presented. Students learn to integrate interview data with physical findings to formulate nursing diagnoses that will guide the nursing process.

404. Quality Management and Advancement of Nursing Expertise

  • The student is introduced to the major components of the professional nurse: Nursing Process, Communication, Teaching/Learning, Leadership, Research, Personal and Professional Growth, Lifespan Development and Caring, that will be built on during subsequent modules.
  • The student will be able to utilize the nursing process, critical decision making, teaching/learning principles and leadership experiences to manage patient care in a variety of care settings.
  • The student will be able to critically read research articles and relate the value of that research to nursing practice and client outcomes.
  • Students are introduced to nursing informatics with an emphasis on acquisition and ethical use of knowledge through the use of the Internet.

405. Nursing Chronically Ill, Physically Challenged and Rehabilitating Patients

  • This module emphasizes the role of the RN in the care of adults with acute and chronic illness across the life span. It combines advanced medical and surgical topics specific to the adult patient.
  • Students will be able to utilize the nursing process, critical decision making in caring for above patients.

406. Nursing Patients Before and After Surgery, Examination or Treatment

  • This module will apply the nursing process and current knowledge and skills in the areas of pre- and post-operative patients, and preventative and curative care.
  • Patient's rights and issues of privacy are reinforced throughout this module.

407. Nursing Geriatric Patients 1

  • This module builds on fundamentals of geriatric nursing.
  • Concepts of aging including physical, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual variables will be addressed.

408. Nursing the Mentally Challenged Patient

This module focuses on the nursing care of children and adults who are mentally handicapped. Concepts include disease process, medical treatments, nursing responsibilities, interventions, cultural, ethical, and legal issues.

409. Nursing Patients with a Psychiatric Disease

This module provides the student with an overview of current Mental Health issues. Current theories and nursing care of clients with mood/affect, neurotic and I or psychotic disorders will be explored.

410. Maternal-Newborn Nursing

This module builds on the fundamentals of nursing to explore the fields of maternity nursing and nursing of newborns.

411. Nursing of Children and Preadolescents

This module focuses on the nursing care of children of various ages. Concepts include disease process, medical treatment, nursing responsibilities, and interventions, cultural, ethical and legal issues.

01. Nursing of Patients with Substance and Drug Addiction

  • This module provides the student with an overview of current substance and drug addiction issues. Current theories and nursing care of clients with substance and drug addiction will be explored.
  • It prepares one to assume the responsibility for providing health care to clients with acute and chronic diseases.
