Your Profile: As Quality & Safety Officer, you have a strong sense of responsibility toward patient safety and care and a strategic mindset to align quality and safety (Q&S) best practices with SMMC’s organizational objectives. You are adaptable to changes in organizational dynamics and external factors. You possess strong communication, social, analytical and problem-solving skills. Requirements: • A Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Management, Public Health, Quality Control, or Safety Management, or a relevant Bachelor’s degree with extensive work experience; • Minimum two years’ work experience in a health care setting; • Thorough understanding of legislation and safety regulations with regard to health care and experience with hospital accreditation standards like Joint Commission International (JCI) or equivalent; • Ability to develop policies, protocols, and procedures; • Skilled in organizing and prioritizing workload to meet (reporting) deadlines; • Ability to evaluate, plan, and direct process improvement projects and benchmark activities for clinical and non-clinical departments. Tasks: • Supports developments and improvements of the quality management system and informs and instructs users; • Ensures required policy and procedure documents are developed, reviewed and implemented within the organization; • Supports hospital accreditation projects by providing coaching to staff as needed and leading project work groups; • Supports auditing programs by developing audit tools, conducting tracers, reporting on audit findings, and monitoring corrective actions; • Functions as the first contact for internal parties regarding issues on quality and safety; • Supports the collection of data for quality and patient safety performance indicators.

St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) is an ambitious and growing hospital organization on St. Maarten. With more than 425 FTEs, 28 Specialists and a capacity of 80 beds, we continuously strive to ensure safe, quality health care. Our primary service area of St. Maarten, Statia and Saba, represents a total population of approximately 60.000 people, constituting a multi-cultural mix with more than 100 different nationalities. In addition, we also offer healthcare services to two million visitors annually. SMMC is constructing the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2027.
