Cayhill- The St. Maarten Medical Center will welcome a new Internist to their medical staff on June 16th, 2013.
The expected Internist, Dr. Gerrit Schreij, has worked for many years in Academisch Ziekenhuis Maastricht as an Internist. His focus has been on Intensive care, Infectious Disease and Hepatitis. His qualifications and experience in Internal Medicine is well fitted to meet the needs of our patients. Dr Schreij will be at SMMC until September 15th, 2013.
Patients who wish to see the new Internist are to make an appointment at the Outpatient department 543 1111 ext. 1300. Appointments can be made from Mondays-Fridays between 8:00– 16:30. SZV patients are further required to obtain a referral letter from their family doctor before visiting the Internist.
Since the retirement of Internist Dr. Jolles, dialysis patients have been treated by visiting Nephrologists from Curacao. This service will continue, as it is a satisfying specialized service for these patients. In future, SMMC plans to acquire a full time Nephrologist to service one of the largest patient groups of the hospital, our dialysis patients.
In the meantime, SMMC will continue to grow and maintain the specialties services to meet the basic health care needs of the community of St. Maarten and neighboring islands.
