Our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department offers medical care for patients seeking body contouring and reconstructive procedures. We provide a wide variety of services, such as general plastic surgery, hand surgery, post-bariatric surgery, breast reconstruction, and scar care, and the clinic is staffed by plastic surgeons, who are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive conditions, and other medical professionals who provide support and care for patients. Our patients receive consultations and treatments for a range of conditions, including facial and body aesthetic surgery, scar revision, and reconstruction following injury or cancer treatment, among others.
Patients can expect a personalized approach to their care, with the plastic surgery team working closely with each patient to determine the best course of treatment. The goal of the plastic surgery clinic is to improve the quality of life and self-esteem of patients and to provide high-quality, patient-centered medical care.
The plastic and reconstructive surgery department provides care with a group of six rotating plastic surgeons from top hospitals in the Netherlands. To guarantee continuity of care, the department works closely with the General Surgery department, which provides post-operative care to our patients.

Dr. Refaat Karim is a renowned plastic surgeon who migrated at the age of eight from Bangladesh to The Netherlands. His professional career began at the Amsterdam VUmc Hospital where he specialized in transsexual vaginoplasty. He went on to become the head of the department at the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Hospital in Amsterdam and founded and directed a private clinic.
Today, Dr. Karim lives and works in the Netherlands, Spain, and now St. Maarten. He also travels to give lectures worldwide on post-circumcision/female genital mutilation (FGM) reconstruction as he is one of only a handful of surgeons in the world who can perform FGM reconstructive surgery.
